Tree Cities of the World participant cites will now have the opportunity to join the Green Cities Network of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in one simple step by completing and submitting the application form.
The Green Cities Network (GCN) is a global community of cities committed to advancing FAO’s flagship Green Cities Initiative, which supports cities globally to become greener, healthier, more sustainable, inclusive and resilient.
GCN member cities benefit through:
- increased international visibility as a sustainability-oriented city
- tailored technical assistance from FAO and its partners
- city-to-city peer learning
- sharing of tools for city planning, implementation and monitoring
- access to green and climate financing and investment opportunities
Recognition as a Tree City of the World shows a city’s exemplary leadership in urban forestry stewardship, a key commitment towards FAO Green City recognition. Membership of the Green Cities Network will also enable support from FA and its partners with integrating urban forestry, urban agriculture and sustainable bioeconomy into city planning, investment and management.
